Some phone systems provide a way, especially during hold music while waiting for a queue to be answered but I could see the option being handy for regular hold, to dial an option and allow the caller to wait in silence instead of listening to hold music.
This is exceptionally useful in situations where the caller would like to listen to their own audio (example, possible on latest iOS versions but not until recently: making vendor car on CarPlay, while on hold would like to listen to podcast instead of hold music--it's possible to listen to both now, but the hold music usually makes the podcast unintelligible).
It would be nice to have the option for a voice prompt like "Press the Star key to wait without in silence" or something and let the caller silence hold music until the call is answered or ended.
While this wouldn't solve the problem for the vendors I have to call that are using other phone systems, it would be nice to be part of the solution overall...
